Barcelonan of the Year 2025

The commission
Briefing

El Periódico and Prensa Ibérica have celebrated the second edition of the “the Barcelonian of the Year” award, which this year also distinguished a Barcelonian woman of the year. Within the framework of the Mercè festivities, the award aims to distinguish those people who, throughout the year, have contributed significantly to promoting, defining or improving the collective project of the city of Barcelona, in the civic, economic, cultural, scientific or social fields. In this 2025 edition, the awardees were Ramon Agenjo, director of Damm and president of Barcelona Global, and Sara Puig, president of the board of trustees of the Fundació Joan Miró.

Objectives

The goal of this new celebration in the city of Barcelona was to position it and raise awareness among the Catalan public, and the citizens of Barcelona. Since it was a new event, it was important to work on introducing it to the calendars and awareness of those who could be the target audience for the gala. Additionally, it was also important for the general public to know about the award and the winner.

The main objective of this second edition has been to consolidate the “Barcelonan of the Year 2025” award within the city’s calendar of relevant events, as well as to reinforce its knowledge among Barcelona citizens and Catalan society in general. After a first edition, this year work has been done to expand its visibility and encourage the participation of the target audiences closest to the gala. At the same time, it has also been a priority to generate notoriety and social recognition around the award and the awardees.

Our solution
Strategy

For this event, El Periódico and Prensa Ibérica entrusted Intermèdia Comunicació with managing the invitation of attendees and providing support in organizing the event’s access. On one hand, it was important and necessary to build a broad database of personalities, institutions, and important figures to attend the gala. The dissemination and active confirmation of attendees was also crucial. On the day of the event, an experienced team in events management handled the reception of general guests and the most notable attendees, such as the newspaper's management and publishers, sponsors, and advertisers, who needed to pass through the photocall.

Action plan
  1. Creation of a database of Barcelona’s civil society that would be interested in attending the event, as well as local journalists who could cover the event.
  2. Technical secretariat, guest management, and confirmations.
  3. Drafting and sending of the "Save the Date" and invitations.
  4. Protocol and reception of the event in collaboration with the event organizers.
  5. Control of guests at the photocall with subsequent assistance to the audiovisual team to identify personalities and their respective roles.
  6. Sending post-event emails with photos of the attendees and the gala.
